Many of the Submarines are nuclear powered and are like mini cities which operate below the surface level. Among the submarines, the attack submarines are meant to search and destroy enemy submarines and ships. They also carry the tomahawk cruise missiles, which were effectively used for the first time in Operation Desert Storm.
The Ballistic missile submarines are nuclear powered and have been in operations since the 1960’s. They have long-range missile arm. The Ohio class of submarines is specifically designed for long time patrol.
The US Navy has close relations with the other armed forces of the United States. There are many operations, which have been performed in conjunction with them. Especially during the Tsunami search and rescue operations in the South East Asian countries.
The Navy Seals are much like the US Marines, who are also an elitist force. They were formed from a core group of volunteers in the Sprig of 1943 and they distinguished themselves during World War II. They are responsible for carrying out various reconnaissance and offensive operations.
All the divisions of the Armed Forces US Air Force, The Army, US Navy, And The Coast Guard and US Marines have their own Reserves. Currently the US Navy deploys over 4000 reserve personnel in active duty.
