The US Coast Guard was set up almost 211 years ago and maintains its constant vigil over the 361 ports and 95,000 miles of coastline including the Great lakes. Its mission is too protecting the economic interests on the ports, international maritime waters and to prevent drug trafficking. Since the September 11 attacks, it has heightened its security cover and alert as a part of Operation Noble Eagle.
The US Coast Guard is one of the five Armed forces of the country. The other is the Army, The US Navy, The US Air Force and the US Marines. Together with them, the US Coast Guard maintains a constant vigil over the lives and properties of the US citizens and its frontiers.
The Army is one of the fittest and strongest in the world. It has taken part in many peacetime and wartime missions. It’s fought the Two World Wars and the Korean as well as the Vietnam War. Both Men and Women take an active role in the Army to day.
The US Navy is one of the best-mechanized navies in the world. It has time and again proven its worth. It operates various types of ships that are classified as Amphibs, Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers and Submarines. Recently it took an active role in the tsunami relief operations In the South East Asian countries that were struck by the Tsunami.
The US Marines are an elite group of men and women who are called upon to serve in various types of situations. They are responsible for the internal as well as external security of the country. Their motto is “The Few, The Proud”. It also allows its officers to continue their education after been enlisted and have a very strong network for its veterans and the family members.
Completing the circle is the US Air Force who along with the US Coast, Army, US Navy and the US Marines is responsible for the sovereignty of the country. They fly the skies and protect them from both internal a well as external aggression.
